Strong Sealing Bond
Gummed tape is made primarily of white or natural color (Kraft) paper and a starch-based adhesive. The tape is available in various widths and thicknesses and when reinforced, contains multiple layers of fiberglass. Once the adhesive is activated with water, it penetrates the corrugated carton material and forms a permanent bond with the carton. This bond is critical for product safety because the strong seal eliminates the carton intrusion without detection and eliminates the possibility of the tape to peel off.
Withstands Multiple Environments
Water-activated tape can be used in dusty, dirty, cold and humid environments and will retain its seal. This is important because the carton's journey may include such environments. Other tapes, such as plastic, pressure-sensitive tape, do not perform well in these environments, leaving products at risk. Without the bonding power of water-activated tape, these tapes simply rest on top of the carton and provide easy entry into the carton.
Tamper-Evident
Theft is a serious product safety issue and unfortunately happens all too often in cartons with a weaker seal. Water-activated tape provides a tamper-evident seal that discourages theft. Plastic, pressure sensitive tape can be easily removed and resealed without anyone any sign of package entry. Upon receipt, the customer finds that items are missing. This problem can be avoided with water-activated tape because of its bonding attributes.
